"Scotland's most precious and treasured historical document"

The Declaration of Arbroath is without doubt the most precious and treasured historical document in the National Archives of Scotland.

The Scottish Gallery is proud to own what is believed to be the finest existing example of an engraving of the original mediaeval manuscript, produced in 1815 by William Home Lizars (1788 - 1859)

The Declaration is now kept in the National Archives, Scottish Records Office, The City of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Having taken immense care and pride in the production, publishing and printing of this facsimile in July 2000 (the first time in almost 180 years) and by only using the most suitable art paper, combined with the latest modern technology, we have produced a print which is, in our opinion, wholly sympathetic and as true to the original as possible.
